Boyd Holbrook talks fatherhood, the enduring influence of Slam, and intermittent fasting…
From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?
I’m currently doing intermittent fasting because it helps me stay fit and healthy when I’m traveling a ton and can’t get to the gym. I start fasting at 10:00PM, and eat again at 2:00PM the next day. It’s allowed me to savor every bite of my food when I’m eating. Avocados are incredibly helpful to include in my diet for their fat content and drinking apple cider vinegar is helpful to get me through the last few hours before I can eat.
What personal grooming items can’t you live without?
I have very fine hair, but a lot of it! I use Oribe spray way to help keep it in place. That’s my one essential I can’t live without.
What’s your personal definition of great content?
Something that has depth and heart.
What was the most memorable thing about shooting Netflix’s In The Shadow of the Moon?
Always having Bokeem Woodbine to talk with about Aliens.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? The worst?
“It’s no longer about you” – my Dad on becoming a Dad. It was very freeing. Once I had some else who was depending on me, I found a profound meaning in life.
One thing women should know about men, that they don’t…
Women know everything!
Most memorable meal you’ve had and why…
An empanada I had in Bariloche, Argentina with my best friend Fernando Mastrangelo. We became best friends when we were both young artists hustling in our respective industries, and we took this trip at a time in our lives when we were both finding success, which was very special.
The film that’s had the greatest impact on your life and why…
Slam (96’). Saul Williams Smith. Watching his performance was so powerful it made me want to feel the things he felt.
One thing every new Dad should know…
Fact – Woman are superior. Honor your lady and get rid of all the baggage that keeps you from being present for your kid who deserves it.
What issue are you most passionate about right now?
Our planet – water is our future!
Who would you like to collaborate with that you haven’t yet?
Christopher Nolan
If you could host a dinner party with any five people living or dead, who would be there?
My great grandma Edith. Sam Shepard. Nikolai Tesla, Greta Thurnberg. I can’t wait to see what kind of conversations – and who steals the show – at this dinner table.
